Moving in the Summer: What You Need to Know

By: ROS Team

Moving is stressful, no matter the season. But if you’re planning a move in the summertime—when homes are more expensive, and apartments are at their most competitive—you’ll want to be extra careful. Here are some tips to get you started.

Plan and Book Early

If you’re planning on moving during the summer months, book your move as soon as possible. This will save you money and give you more options for dates and times.

Get a good moving company. Make sure that the company has all of its licenses and insurance before hiring them to help with your relocation process.

Get the best dates for moving day and make sure those dates work with everyone’s schedule – including yours!

Pack Smart

When packing, you want to be as smart as possible. You don’t want to pack heavy or bulky items that will add a lot of weight to your moving truck. But you also don’t want to pack fragile or breakable things that can be damaged on the road.

If you have sentimental items (like old photos), wait until after everything is settled before going through them so that they don’t get lost during the move.

Protect Your Belongings From Heat And Sun Damage

You can also protect your belongings from heat and sun damage by keeping them in the shade. If you have a large item that needs to be moved, like a couch or bed frame. Make sure to put it in a shaded area as soon as possible after taking it out of storage.

When moving during warmer months of the year – especially during summer – it’s important not to leave any boxes outside for too long.

In addition, don’t leave any items sitting on top of other items in direct sunlight because this will increase their chances of getting damaged by heat or UV rays from the sun’s rays (which is what causes things like fading).

Don’t Forget The Essentials

Now that you have a plan, it’s time to get moving. Here are some things to remember:

  • Food and Water: You’ll need plenty of both for the move, but also for when you arrive at your new place. If possible, pack any perishable items in an insulated cooler bag with plenty of ice packs or frozen water bottles – this will help keep them cool during transport (and once they’re there). If there’s no room in the car or truck for a cooler bag, consider packing some cold sandwiches or salads in Tupperware containers so they don’t get squashed during transit.
  • Medications/first aid kit/blankets/sleeping bags/camping gear (or whatever else is essential): Moving can be stressful on its own without having to worry about forgetting important things like medication or first aid supplies! Pack these essentials into separate bags so that they’re easy to find when needed later on down the road.

Take Care Of The Pets And Plants

If you’re moving in the summer, it’s important to take care of your pets and plants.

If possible, bring pets to a boarding facility. This will give them more space and make them happy – and if they’re already used to being around other animals. They’ll be less likely to miss their friends when they arrive at their new home.

If there isn’t a place nearby that takes care of plants (such as a greenhouse). Bring them inside until after you have moved into your new residence. Then put them back outside where they belong so that everything feels normal again!

Stay Cool And Hydrated

Heat stroke is a genuine threat on a hot summer day for anyone, but particularly for those who are physically active all day, lifting boxes and going up and down stairs. Therefore, it is important to:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Wear light clothing and a hat to shade your skin from the sun, which can be especially harsh during summer months when it’s hotter and drier than usual.
  • Avoid strenuous activity that could cause you to sweat heavily (like yard work) since this will increase your risk of dehydration.
  • Close windows and doors during the day to keep cool air inside, but open them at night for fresh air circulation – and don’t forget about using ceiling fans! And if you’re going out in the sun for long periods of time, wear sunscreen!

Have A Checklist For The Movers

The best way to ensure that everything goes smoothly is to have a checklist of things to do before the movers arrive. This will help you avoid missing anything and make sure that all your items are in good condition when they reach their destination.

Make sure you include:

  • The names and contact information for everyone involved in the move, including yourself, any friends or family who are helping out, and any contractors who may be needed (e.g., electricians).
  • Detailed information on where each item should be placed at its new home. So there’s no confusion later on if something gets moved somewhere else accidentally while being unloaded from boxes or crates by mistake!

Final Thoughts

Moving in the summer can be a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. By planning ahead and taking care of all the details, you’ll have an easier time getting settled into your new home and enjoying all of its perks!
