6 Tips For Real Estate Agents For A Productive Work From Home Time

By: Jennifer Villalba

Working from home sure seems fascinating and comfortable. You do not have to schedule and alter your routine according to your office hours. You have the luxury to plan your time according to your wish. Work from Home definitely has its fair share of perks.

But with the Pandemic emergency troubling us all affecting the real estate industry, working from home for an entire month (or even longer), does not seem effortless. Sure, you can do your laundry right after an important video conferencing or help your kids with their homework while you work on your presentation. Still, multi-tasking would definitely hamper your work efficiency at one point, and this sure is not right.

When you are a real estate agent on a typical day, you go a block to block, meet a hundred clients; show them ten houses, or more. Even when you are working from your office, you got your deadlines and projects lined up, but then the daily goals are achieved, your clients and peers are happy with your work ethic.

A week of work from Home is still manageable and can be seamlessly followed through if you plan carefully. Still, given the current circumstances, you not only have your domestic duties but also your professional ones at the same time.

There are so many distractions and issues that one has to face while working from Home. It is tough to stay focused when working from home, but it is definitely not impossible. You, too, can strike a balance between your personal and professional life.

The following are the measures you can adopt and follow to give your best on the professional front.

1. Don Your Office Apparel

This might sound funny and hard to implement. If you dress well and get ready for the “office hours” at home just the way you like you usually used to, it will make a difference. Not only will it boost your productivity, but your family members will be thinking twice before calling out your name for any random request. Working in your pajamas, of course, is comfortable and more relaxing, but wearing your formal pants and blazer will affect your mindset and keep you active, focused, and ready for your work.

If you are able to do your work from home productively you can actually become a successful real estate agent.

2. Follow Your 2019 B.C. (Before COVID-19) Regime

It is understandable that you are getting easily distracted and antsy during your work from home period. This is only because you have trained your mind into believing that you got time. You might be sleeping late or watching movies along with your work. Your meals must be getting late, and this affects your entire body clock. You need not plan anything; all you have to do is, follow your office regime. If you used to wake up at 7 AM to get to work at 9 AM, then do the same at your home, minus the commute time. If you have urgent work, then plan your office hours accordingly.

3. Separate Your Personal and Professional Life

We mean, literally. Create your office space, and it should be away from your television, refrigerator, couch, etc. This action is quite self-explanatory, and others won’t trouble you every now and then. You have to make yourself and others aware that those hours are crucial and dedicated only to office work.  You can even ask your family to text you instead of barging in every single time. Appreciate their efforts and give them time but do make them understand the importance of work ethics.

4. Take Breaks

This clearly does not mean you start binge-watching your favorite show. Take short breaks just like you used to at your office by the water cooler? Strike a conversation with a family member during that time, or play fetch with your pet. Something that would freshen your mind and keep you relaxed and ready to resume work. Time management is crucial when it comes to breaks. You can prepare your meals in one slot, continue work, and eat your meal in the next.

5. Make a to-do list

Whether you have your pet jumping and sleeping on your legs or you got your kids downstairs playing loudly (can’t complain), at least make sure you have targets achieved at the end of the day. It is understandable that you might not be able to work at the same pace and focus. However, it is possible to manage your work when you have your daily goals set. Make a list of projects that require completion, a night before. Work systematically on the next day so that there are no discrepancies further on. When working from home, chances of work piling up are higher. Setting targets will keep your mind active and lessen the work pressure.

6. Focus on CRM

This is the best time to focus and utilize your work from home time to focus on your clients and build a relationship with them. This would help you in getting potential clients and keep yourself fresh for your official work. Take some time out to call them or interact with them through social media. Give them updates or answer their queries.  This is a great way to stay energized and enhance your productivity.

In this time of crisis, make sure you take the right precautions to keep yourself and your family safe. The economy might be tumbling, but giving your best while you work from Home is the most responsible thing to do right now. When getting anxious and distracted, take a breather; make yourself some tea and calm yourself first and get back to your work. Follow the above tips and measures and show better results while you work from Home.
